BEAT THE DRUM

INTRODUCTION

All sound is caused by vibrations. Even a drum causes vibrations. Remember the salt dancing on the plastic in the first experiment? The can with plastic stretched over the top was a kind of drum. Your ear has a drum inside, your ear drum. Let's make some vibrations that will beat on your ear drum.

1 set of mystery sound tubes

WHAT YOU DO

1. Shake each tube and try to figure out what's inside just by how it sounds. Make an "X" in the right box of the chart below.

2. When everybody's done, find out how many people picked which answers and write that down in the right box of the chart.

3. Graph the class' results for each tube on the next page.
