We have seen that water increases in volume as it turns solid. What do you think will happen to a closed container that is completely filled with water and then cooled?

1 Towel
Water
1 Plastic Food Storage Box With Lid

PROCEDURE

1. Fill the box to the top with water.

2. Put the box on the towel on a counter or table.

3. Put the lid on tightly. If the box is completely full, some water will squirt out when you put the lid on.

4. Put the box in the freezer overnight. What happens?

Why shouldn't you put a can of soda in the freezer?
