BACKGROUND

Here's another exercise that lets you figure out the shape of a landscape that you cannot see. Graphing the data will help bring your landscape to life!

WHAT YOU DO

1. Gently insert the probe into the hole labeled "1" as far as it will Check the probe to be sure it is standing straight up from the top carton. If it is not, pull it out and insert it again - gently. go. of the

2. Meaure the length of the probe that sticks up above the carton. Look at the figure and you will see that the higher spots of land will have a long length of the probe sticking out while the lower spots of land will have only a short bit of probe sticking out.

3. Record your reading in the following table. Take readings for each numbered position.

4. When all of your readings are complete, plot the points on a graph. The use your ruler to connect the points to see your hidden landscape.

5. Write a description of your landscape. Include references to the north and south directions.
